No diving needed

You don't have to dive to see something wonderful.

Dahab's reefs begin in water so shallow and clear that you can see a great deal of their beauty from the surface, mask down, simply floating. Our guided snorkelling trips are for everyone who would rather not dive — non-swimmers building confidence, families with children, divers' partners who prefer the surface, or anyone who just wants to drift over a coral garden in the sun. You get the same gorgeous reefs the divers visit, a guide who keeps you safe and shows you the best spots, and all the equipment, with no experience required at all.

Why guided snorkelling

The reef is shallow here — and a guide makes it better.

One of the joys of Dahab is that its reefs come right up into the shallows, so the coral, the fish and often turtles are visible just below a snorkeller floating on the surface — no diving certificate, no tank, no depth required. But a guided trip is far better than wading in alone. The guide knows which stretches of reef are richest, where the turtles graze, where the water is calmest for a nervous swimmer or a child, and how to keep everyone safe from the currents and the boat traffic. They turn a pleasant float into a genuine wildlife experience, pointing out what you would drift straight past on your own.

Trips suit all ages and abilities, including children and non-confident swimmers — we provide buoyancy aids and stay close, and we choose calm, shallow sites for those who want them. For families it is often the highlight of the trip, and for a diver's non-diving companion it means everyone shares the water together. The reefs are described on the dive sites page, prices are on the pricing page, and if a snorkeller decides they want to go deeper, a try-dive is the natural next step.

Who it's for

Snorkelling suits almost everyone.

If diving is not for you — yet, or at all — snorkelling opens the same underwater world. It is especially good for these.

Families with children

Children take to snorkelling naturally in the warm, shallow, clear water, and a guided trip keeps them safe while they discover the reef. Often the highlight of a family's whole trip to Dahab.

Non-divers & nervous swimmers

No experience and no great swimming confidence are needed — we provide buoyancy aids, choose calm sites, and stay close. Many snorkellers who started nervous end up floating happily for an hour.

Divers' companions

If you dive but your partner or friend does not, snorkelling means you can all be in the same beautiful water together rather than one of you waiting on the beach. Everyone shares the day.

Snorkelling questions

What snorkellers ask.

Do I need to be a strong swimmer?

No. We provide buoyancy aids that keep you afloat effortlessly, choose calm and shallow sites, and a guide stays close. Plenty of our snorkellers are not confident swimmers and have a wonderful, safe time on the surface.

What age can children start?

Young children can snorkel with us in the calm shallows with a parent and a guide close by and a buoyancy aid on. Tell us the children's ages when you book and we will choose the gentlest, safest spot, keep the group small, and make sure there is an adult or guide within arm's reach of every child at all times.

Is equipment included?

Yes — mask, snorkel, fins and buoyancy aids are all provided and included, sized to fit each person including children. You need bring nothing but a swimsuit, a towel and sun protection — and we will happily advise on reef-safe sunscreen, since the corals you are coming to see are harmed by the ordinary kind.
